OnePlus makes some of the smartest looking phones in the market and the current generation OnePlus 7T series is an example of that fact. The OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro have some of the most refined designs for a smartphone in 2019, especially with the frosted glass finish for both the models that make them look stunning in any lighting condition. However, the colour options are quite limited to bluish tones and that's not good if you don't like blue. That said, OnePlus had originally planned a lavish gold colour scheme for the OnePlus 7T.
As revealed by OnePlus Product Designer Hao Ran on Weibo, OnePlus had originally planned a metallic gold variant of the OnePlus 7T and a photo of the variant has been shared as well. The metallic gold is essentially a very gold coloured variant of the OnePlus 7T with the same frosted glass back finish. Even the circular camera module gets a special circular gradient as well. There's a gradient in the gold shade that goes from dark gold to light gold depending on the light reflection.
There's no change in the basic design though and it's still the same OnePlus 7T albeit in a different colour.
As for why OnePlus refused to launch this variant, it's still a mystery. Maybe OnePlus found the colour too ostentatious for all the markets. Or maybe the market demand for a gold coloured phone has gone down in the current times. OnePlus has been going overboard with blue this year, with its Nebula Blue OnePlus 7 Pro selling in high numbers. That also led OnePlus to come up with the Mirror Blue variant of the OnePlus 7 later. And blue seems to be a favourite colour in India.
That said, the OnePlus 7T only has two colours - Glacier Blue and Frosted Silver. As a consumer, it would be nice to have more colour options on this phone. OnePlus usually does a special edition colour variant later in the year and chances are that we could see a new colour variant for the OnePlus 7T in a few months. However, the OnePlus 7T Pro already has a special edition McLaren Edition and maybe there' no other variant coming up in the future.
